Rivers Assembly moves to probe Chief Judge

The recent crisis in the Rivers state is gaining momentum as moves to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara heightens.

You’d recall that Governor Fubara had accepted to implement the Supreme Court verdict which hit a roadblock as the Amaewhule led Assembly locked out the Governor from presenting the 2025 budget.

The estranged 27 lawmakers who are loyal to Minister Nyesom Wike are hell bent on holding Fubara to ransom with both body languages and actions.

Earlier today, the Rivers State House of Assembly had requested the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate allegations of age falsification against the state’s Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Simeon Amadi.

During its 135th legislative sitting, the Assembly reviewed documents suggesting that Justice Amadi may have altered his age in official records.

The Assembly emphasized the seriousness of such allegations and called for a thorough DSS investigation to determine their validity.

From our findings, the embattled chief Judge is a loyal to Fubara and is making it quite difficult for the 27 lawmakers to carry on with their impeachment plan.

It’s also alleged that the Governor of the State has barred all heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies not to appear before the House or assist the House in the conduct of investigation. So, the House is calling on the Department of State Service to institute an investigation on the alleged Age falsification by the Chief Judge with a view to ascertaining the veracity or otherwise of the allegation, which will be forwarded to the National Judicial Council(NJC).

However, an anonymous wrote “You can’t remove the chief judge even if you do; the governor will nominate his person, and you must screen. If you don’t clear the governor’s choice, he will still send you his person. And the process to remove a chief judge doesn’t lie in your hands. By the constitution, the government had to write to you informing you of any infractions. After writing a petition to the NJC, it is after the NJC had recommended his sack that you can do that rubbish that you intend to do. Like I have said a thousand times, you can’t impeach the governor, this madness; it has an expiring date. I am happy you are fighting the only person that has the power to give you the legal grounds to impeach the governor.”

The confusion is only getting tougher as the people of Rivers suffer the more for all these.

Hang on for more details….
