TIMES ranking for 2025 For top 25 universities in Nigeria

The Nigerian University ranking system for the year, 2025 according to TIMES is out with not too many surprises as covenant University takes the lead again.

In Nigeria, somehow, the Government owned universities are trailing the Privately owned universities. It may actually mean one thing, “something is seriously wrong with the priorities of the Nigerian government”.

Example, in the National budget of the government of Nigeria, 2025, it was found that the government budgeted only : NELFUND: N175 BIllion.
Streetlights: N393 Billion…..

The above statistical data would only beam a small light to the priorities of the government.

One may ask, what are the metrics for getting these rankings.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 use 18 metrics across five areas: teaching (29.5%), research environment (29%), research quality (30%), international outlook (7.5%), and industry (4%).

These include reputation surveys, staff-to-student ratios, citation impact, and international collaboration, applied uniformly to Nigerian universities. The methodology is transparent but criticized for biases favoring English-speaking, science-focused institutions and subjectivity in reputation surveys. Data integrity issues, like alleged manipulation, also raise concerns.

Below are the rankings….
