Why Did Peter Obi Visit Afe Babalola and Dele Farotimi?
Sowore said Peter Obi went to ‘beg Pa Afe Babalola.’
The tone of his tweet suggests that Peter Obi went to prostrate before a ‘sinful’ Babalola to appeal for what he should not, in a very humiliating manner that insults Mr Dele, emboldens Afe Baba, and spoils the movement for Justice that has greeted their case.
His tweet is dangerous, as usual. It attempts to portray Sowore as a brave fighter-activist for freedom and justice and pummel Peter Obi as a butt-licking, weak opportunist who inserts himself in a ‘just struggle’ to spoil it.
It may be unfair to the truth if we ignore…
Sowore’s cant and move on to the next chapter in the saga that mirrors the tragic travesty of the justice system in Nigeria. Even if everyone else does, being one who is privy to Obi’s visit, I won’t.
If anything, Peter Obi’s visit to Afe Babalola and Dele Farotimi bravely embraces the public’s expectation of his leadership and the burden of the friendship he shares with both ‘actors’ in the absurdity.
Both men share a close affinity with Peter Obi. Afe Baba had expressed his belief and wish for a ‘Nigeria where Obi becomes President’ before he ‘departs this earth.’ He supported Obi in 2023.
Dele isn’t just a wisher for an Obi’s Presidency;
he doggedly fought for its actualization and is still going.

In this case, Obi is caught between two worlds of tough, contrasting interests. The silent whispers of the public echo his name in every thought about ending the fiasco between Baba and Dele.
Will Obi be an apostate of hate, a disciple of peace, or an advocate of justice in the unsettling drama? If not, what role should he play? That has been a question that has danced in people’s minds steadily.
As expected, Obi didn’t disappoint.
His visit addressed all the concerns and did more. The timing was apt. The discussions were thoughtful and fruitful, and if the talks have no spoiler, the outcome will be as thought.
Peter Obi touched down in Ado Ekiti and he visited Afe Babalola first.
I mean, the older man is 95, old enough to give birth to him. As a respecter of his elders, Obi owed his ‘principle’ the duty to regard Afe Baba. He arrived, a warm exchange of pleasantries happened, and the discussions quickly drove into ‘why’ he visited.
They debated the incident, its consequences, and why it shouldn’t continue. Obi’s argument was much more convincing than merely appealing. They resolved their discussion with a positive attitude.
Obi departed Afe Baba’s office and headed to Mr. Dele’s prison room.
Dele is known to hardly show emotions, but Obi’s presence unlocked the depth of his heart, and the emotions flowed shyly. He smiled intensely, and his innocent face beamed admiration for a leader he’d come to love and respect.
After their warmest embrace and…
mutually respectful exchange of pleasantries, Obi sat with him, and a different debate began. It was a confluence of facts, truth, and justice. They settled on a resolution that met the purpose of Obi’s visit. They bade each other goodbye with happy hearts.
Peter Obi’s visit further confirms his capacity to lead and mediate, and his ‘will’ to stand for truth and Justice, even amidst interfering relationships or personal interests.
Sowore may hate to admire him, but he can’t deny that he wishes to be that person.
Peter Obi suffers a burden of purity and sainthood. He must be ‘perfect’ in everything, even in nothing. Any living politician in Nigeria will rarely wish to ‘wear that clothes.’
One consequence of the perception of Obi as a ‘pure man’ is that it attracts him to meaningless drags and ridiculous shenanigans by ‘less’ persons like Sowore.
It appears that Sowore purposefully pinches public perception to tweak it against any truth favouring Obi, which is a ‘below human’ act – that should only come from APC puppets. It doesn’t take a fan of Obi to like his visit to both warring brothers and appreciate his role in brokering a truce.
